Brockport hung tough before a 15-4 second-half Plattsburgh run doomed the Golden Eagles.

Sophomore Sarah Alwardt scored eight points and snared six rebounds in loss to Plattsburgh.
The College at Brockport's women's basketball team played solid defense, but the Golden Eagles dropped a tough 56-42 decision to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon inside Plattsburgh's Memorial Hall.

Brockport trailed only 35-33 midway through the second half, but Plattsburgh used a 15-4 run to pull away.

Junior Desiree Fauvelle (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) scored all eight of her points in the first-half for Brockport, which started fast and held a 10-4 lead early on. Freshman Alex Leung (Merrick, NY/W.C. Mepham) drained a three-pointer to put the Golden Eagles ahead 13-6 before Plattsburgh responded by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to take a 17-15 lead. Plattsburgh led 21-19 at halftime.

Leung's second '3' pulled Brockport within 28-27 with 15:07 remaining. Freshman Mallory Buckley (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) and sophomore Sarah Alwardt (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) each hit baskets and junior Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) buried a pair of free throws to keep the Golden Eagles close, trailing only 35-33, but Plattsburgh responded with 15-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 50-37 lead.

Junior Bobbi Jean Bryden (New Berlin, NY/Morris) hit a layup, was fouled and converted the free throw for the three-point play to get Brockport within 10, but the Golden Eagles couldn't get any closer. Nine of the 11 Golden Eagles who played against Plattsburgh scored points. Alwardt and sophomore Ellen Story (Catskill, NY/Catskill) led the Golden Eagles with six rebounds apiece.

Brockport returns to action with a pair of home games, taking on Oneonta at 6 p.m. Friday night and New Paltz at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon inside the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
