Each individual on The College at Brockport women's tennis team was eliminated from the New York State Championships held at Mendon Racquet Club on Friday.
The No. 2 doubles duo of senior
Jen Lazarony (Corfu, NY/ Pembroke) and junior
Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) were the only team to advance on Friday, winning their first match over Elmira College due to forfeit.
Lazarony and Richenberg were then overmatched in their second match against New York University, where they were ousted 8-1.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and senior
Kaitlyn Broderick (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) also battled hard at No. 1 doubles, but lost 8-3 to a team from Nazareth.
The third doubles team of junior
Carolyn McMenemon (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) and sophomore
Ellen Meyers (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) also lost by the score 8-3 to a tandem from Ithaca.
All six individuals were eliminated in the first round of singles action, effectively ending the season for the Golden Eagles.
“All three doubles teams played really well against very strong opponents,” head coach
Ben Klempka said. “Each player made great strides this year, and it's unfortunate to see the season come to a close.”
Brockport finished 6-7 this year, and lost three matches by a narrow 5-4 margin. The Golden Eagles rattled off a three-game win streak near the end of the year to move to 5-5 entering the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.
