GAME 1 GAME 2
Senior Max Keado (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) finished with four hits including a 3-for-3 game in the nightcap as The College at Brockport Baseball team opened its Spring Training trip to Florida with a doubleheader sweep of games over Gwynedd-Mercy Friday afternoon in Leesburg, Florida.
Brockport posted a 5-1 victory in game one behind a strong pitching performance by senior Kyle Smith (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and captured an 8-5 victory in the second game of the afternoon with the Brockport bats taking charge.
In game one, Brockport (4-1) scratched out six hits with six different players delivering hits and scored three times in the third inning and added two more in the fifth to provide the offense as Smith controlled the Gwynedd-Mercy lineup allowing just one run on five hits with the complete-game, seven-inning victory. He struck out five batters.
“Kyle (Smith) pitched a great game,” said head coach Justin Beach. “He had a good outing and went the entire game which saved our bullpen for later in the week. In game two we battled hard the entire game in the back-and-forth game and had some key hits. It is great to start the trip with a pair of wins.”
In game two, Keado led the way with three hits and two walks while fellow senior Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville, NY) was 3-for-4, sophomore Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 2-for-3 and fellow sophomore Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was 2-for-4 at the plate and retired the final batter of the game to earn his first save of the season.
