GAME 1 BOXSCORE GAME 2 BOXSCORE
Junior Mark Ciccottoi (Breesport, NY/Horseheads) struck out four batters and scattered five hits over seven innings for a complete-game victory leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Messiah College Saturday afternoon at Lake Bonny Park in Winter Haven, Florida. The Golden Eagles won the opener 6-3 and took the night cap 5-0 to record their sixth consecutive victory.
In the opener, senior Zach Prentice (Auburn, NY/Auburn) provided the majority of the offense with a grand slam in the third inning to give Brockport (6-1) a 4-0 lead. After Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) singled and Max Keado (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) walked, Anthony Siracusa (Auburn, NY/Auburn) drew a two-out walk to load the bases and Prentice cleared the bases with the first home run of the season for the Golden Eagles.
Messiah scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth but Brockport tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead. Messiah surrendered two of the first three batters in the fifth before Brockport rallied for its runs. Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) reached base on an error advancing Siracusa to third and then Mike Potenza (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) and Mike Goldstein (Slingerlands, NY/Guilderland) each singled to chase home Siracusa and Booth for a 6-1 Brockport lead.
Messiah threatened in the sixth with two runs but John Lowe (Kingston, NY/Kingston) came on in relief of starter Steve Locke (Oxford, NY/Oxford) and struck out two consecutive batters to end the inning after Messiah had scored twice.
In the second contest, Prentice, Keado, Booth and Jake Privitera (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had two hits each to pace the offense and Ciccotti handled the rest with a solid pitching performance.
“Mark (Ciccotti) had a nice start for us in game two,” said head coach Justin Beach. “He was solid all day and kept the Messiah batters off balance. It is always nice on the Spring trip to get a complete game to give the bull pen a rest.”
Brockport scored twice in the second inning on a passed ball and an infield error to take the early lead. In the third, Prentice doubled to open the inning and two batters later Privitera singled him home for the 3-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles added two more insurance runs in the sixth when Coleman led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) single before coming home on a Prentice sacrifice fly to center field.
“I was pleased with the way everyone stepped up when they were given the opportunity,” said Beach. “Today we wanted to use a few different players in different positions to give some more players a chance to play. It really shows our depth when they play as well as they did today.”
