BOXSCORE

The College at Brockport baseball team rallied from a 5-1 deficit and led 6-5 before St. John Fisher College scored two runs in the top of the fifth to win 7-6 in a game called after five innings due to rain on a windy Wednesday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport.

Fisher (20-6) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Golden Eagles (19-10) battled back and tied it in the home half of the inning. Junior Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) got the Golden Eagles on the board with an RBI single to knot the score at 1-all.

The visiting Cardinals struck back for four runs in the third, highlighted by a solo home run and a two-run double, and Fisher led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the third.

The Golden Eagles responded with some clutch hitting to push across five runs. Senior Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and sophomore Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) drove in two runs with a double to deep right field.

Sophomore Stephen Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) followed with an RBI double to the gap in right-center field and freshman Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) snapped a 5-all tie with another RBI double, the second two-out, run-scoring hit of the inning.

The score remained 6-5 until Fisher broke through for two runs in the top of the fifth. The Cardinals loaded the bases and had a 3-1 count when junior James Williamson (Mexico, NY/Mexico) threw the next two pitches for looking strikes to record the second out of the inning. But Fisher scored two runs on a fielder's choice and led 7-6 and Brockport was held scoreless in the bottom of the inning. After a heavy rain started falling on the field, the game was called after five complete innings.

Up next for Brockport: the Golden Eagles travel to Oneonta Friday to resume their doubleheader with Plattsburgh. The first game of the doubleheader was halted on April 18 due to snowfall with Brockport leading 4-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning. The teams will finish Game 1 and play Game 2 at Oneonta. Brockport then has a three-game set at Oneonta on Saturday and Sunday.
