Golden Eagles Drop Conference Game on the Road

Brockport falls to Oneonta 59-39

Freshman guard Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) scored 11 first half points for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team but the Golden Eagles fell to the Oneonta Red Dragons 59-39 on Saturday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference contest.

Byrnes finished the game with 14 points as her night ended early with an ankle injury. Byrnes connected on three three-point attempts, including two in the first half. Kelly Grinnell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) also scored in double figures with 10 points and added five assists and two steals.

Brockport fell behind in the early stages of the first half as Oneonta went on an 11-0 run to make the score 13-3. At the end of the first half, Brockport put together a 9-3 run to cut the score to 28-17 heading into halftime.

The Golden Eagles continued their run to open up the second half as they scored 11 of the half's first 13 points to make the score 30-28 at the 17:37 mark. During that run, Grinnell, Byrnes, and Desiree Fauvelle (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) each connected on three-point attempts. Brockport went scoreless for the next five minutes and scored just 11 points the rest of the way as Oneonta pulled away.

Oneonta was forced into 15 turnovers by Brockport and only converted two of 12 three-point attempts. Opponents are connecting on just 29.9 percent of their three point attempts in 15 games against the Golden Eagles defense this season.
