Sigrist Scores 18 in Loss to Cortland

The freshman tied her career-high against the Red Dragons

Freshman forward Cecilia Sigrist (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) tied her career-high with 18 points for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team in a loss to Cortland on Tuesday night.  The Golden Eagles dropped the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup 78-58.

Sigrist shot 5-10 from the field and 8-10 from the free throw line to lead all scorers. Sigrist also added six rebounds. Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) reached double figures with 14 points and LaDonya Rolle (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench.

Byrnes opened up the scoring with the game's first bucket. Cortland responded with a 9-0 run, but Sigrist scored five of Brockport's next seven points to bring the game back to a tie. The two teams were caught in a tie on five separate occasions in the first half. Desiree Fauvelle (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) sank a three-point shot with 7:55 remaining to knot the score at 20. The Red Dragons then went on a 20-9 run to close out the first half and went into halftime with a 40-29 advantage.

Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored the first points of the second half to cut the deficit to nine, but Cortland held a steady lead. Byrnes sank two free throws at the 10:30 mark to get Brockport to within seven, but the Golden Eagles could not get any closer. Byrnes and Sigrist combined to score 13 of Brockport's final 18 points before the final horn sounded.

Brockport forced 17 turnovers for Cortland which led to 12 points and also grabbed seven steals. The Golden Eagles assisted on 63 percent of their field goals for the game. Brockport finished the game shooting 77.3 percent from the free throw line, the teams' second best percentage this season.

The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season with a home game against Plattsburgh on Friday, Feb. 17 and Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Potsdam.
