Junior Stephen Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) had his second consecutive perfect day at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort to lead The College at Brockport Baseball team to an 8-4 victory over Franklin and Marshall College Wednesday at the Chain of Lakes Complex in Winter Haven, Florida.
Boronczyk was a perfect 4-for-4 against Dickinson College Tuesday and added three more hits Wednesday for seven consecutive hits for Brockport (7-4).
The Golden Eagles took an early lead with one run in the first and two more in the third for a 3-0 lead. In the first, Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) singled to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and on to third with a ground out to the right side of the infield. Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) followed with a single up the middle to score Coleman.
In the third, Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) hit a one-out single and stole second. Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) reached base on a throwing error and both runners moved up a base due to a balk. Weakley followed with a single through the left side of the infield scoring both runners.
The 3-0 lead did not last as Franklin and Marshall (5-5) scored four times in the fourth inning with a leadoff walk and three consecutive singles to take the 4-3 lead.
The lead lasted until the bottom of the sixth inning when Brockport pushed across three more runs to take the lead for good. Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) converted a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position. Boronczyk followed with a two-run single through the left side of the infield and advanced to second base on the throw. Jamie Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) followed with his first hit of the season – a double to the right-centerfield gap scoring his brother from second and giving Brockport the 6-4 advantage.
Brockport added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the final score.
James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) started the game and went six innings while relievers Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and Justin McCarthy (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) combined to finish the game. McCarthy was credited with the save – his third of the season.
