Senior Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) knocked in one run in the fourth inning and plated three more in the fifth inning to lead The College at Brockport Baseball team to an 8-3 victory over RIT Sunday afternoon at RIT.
Brockport (10-5) fell behind 2-0 when RIT (4-5) scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to take the early lead. The Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the fourth and took an 8-2 lead with six more runs in the fifth.
In the fourth inning, Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) walked to lead off the inning and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Booth followed with a run-scoring single. After Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) reached on a fielding error, Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) doubled to score Booth but Weakley was thrown out at the plate for the first out of the inning.
In the fifth inning, Jamie Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran), Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and Tracy each singled to load the bases to start the inning. After an RIT pitching change, Booth singled to centerfield and advanced all the way to third base on an error to score three runners and then trotted home on a ground out to give Brockport a 6-2 lead.
Later in the fifth, Bunce singled and Stephen Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) doubled and advanced to third on a throw scoring Bunce. Boronczyk was plated a batter later on a ground out for the 8-2 lead.
RIT added one run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the final score.
James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) started on the mound for Brockport and picked up his fourth win of the season with 5 2/3 innings of work. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs but struck out six RIT batters to pick up the win. James Williamson (Mexico, NY/Mexico) struck out all four batters he faced in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Kevin Miller (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), Mark Driesel (Kent, NY/Kendall) and Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) combined to close out the game for Brockport.
Wilson and Booth each had two hits while Bunce led the way with his 3-for-5 day at the plate. Tracy and Booth each scored twice and Booth led the way with four runs batted in. Tracy was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.
