The College at Brockport Men's Baseball team dropped a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games to No. 8 ranked Cortland on Saturday afternoon, a day after taking the first game of the three-game series 7-5. The Golden Eagles fell game one 10-0 and dropped game two 13-0.
Stephen Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) led the team with three hits on the day as the Golden Eagles fall to 12-7 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.
Brockport fell behind early in game one as Cortland scored a run in the first and third inning and three in the fourth off starting pitched
James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henniger). The Red Dragons opened up the game in the fifth inning with four runs off of relief pitcher
Jake Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena).
Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) got the first hit of the game for Brockport in the second inning with a single up the middle. The only other hit for the Golden Eagles came in the fifth as Boroncyzk found a hole on the left side of the infield to reach base.
Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and
David Campese (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) combined to pitch the final two and two-thirds innings without allowing an earned run.
Cortland jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning again in game two. Starting pitcher
Mark Ciccotti (Breesport, NY/Horseheads) kept the Red Dragons scoreless for the next two innings, but Cortland took a 3-0 lead in the fourth on a couple of Golden Eagle errors. Cortland used another big fifth inning, once again scoring four runs in their top half to take a 7-0 lead. The Red Dragons tacked on runs over the next three innings off of
James Williamson (Mexico, NY/Mexico) and
John Lowe (Kingston, NY/Kingston).
Boroncyzk went 2-3 in game two.
Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) and
Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) collected the other two hits for Brockport as the Golden Eagles had only one runner reach third base on the day.
Brockport returns to action on March 30-31 with a three-game conference series against the New Paltz Hawks.
