Missed Opportunities Haunt Baseball in Road Loss

Golden Eagles leave nine runners stranded in a 7-3 loss at New Paltz

Junior Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and sophomore Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) collected two hits each but The College at Brockport Baseball team left nine runners on base with at least one in seven different innings allowing New Paltz to score a 7-3 victory Friday afternoon in the first of three scheduled State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUINYAC) games between the two teams on Loren Campbell Field in New Paltz.

After three innings of scoreless play, Brockport (12-8 overall, 1-3 SUNYAC) rallied in the fourth with two outs to score one run and had the bases loaded when the final out was made giving the Golden Eagles a slim 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when the Hawks (13-8, 2-2) pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead and after Brockport answered with a single run in the top of the seventh, New Paltz scored three more times in the bottom of the inning for the 6-2 lead.

Each team scored in the eighth inning for the final score.

Coleman and Gianni had two hits each while Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit), Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each added a hit and a run batted in for the Golden Eagles.

Aaron Tilley (Troy, NY/Troy) started and pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing five runs on six hits before John Lowe (Kingston, NY/Kingston), Mark Driesel (Kent, NY/Kendall) and Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) combined for the relief effort.
