Box Score
The College at Brockport Baseball team dropped its' final regular season game, a nonconference nine-inning contest to the University of Rochester on Tuesday by the score of 5-4. Junior
Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) went 2-4 with two runs batted in on the day to pace the Brockport offense.
The Yellowjackets slowly built their lead up throughout the game, scoring two in the second, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth. Starting pitcher
Aaron Tilley (Troy, NY/Troy) didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning but allowed the two runs in the second on two walks, an error, and a hit by pitch. Bunce drove in two as part of a three-run sixth and the Golden Eagles added one more in the eighth but failed to score with a runner on in the ninth.
Tilley falls to 5-5 on the year and the Golden Eagles used five different pitchers throughout the game. Along with Bunce,
Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Kevin Gerken (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) had two hits as well. Gerken drove in one run while Weakley, who extended his hitting streak to eight games, scored a run.
Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) extended his team-leading hit streak to 15 games after going 1-3 on the day.
After trailing 5-0 through five innings of play, Brockport finally got on the board in the sixth. Booth lined a single to center to lead off the inning. Weakley then singled through the left side and Booth advanced to third. Bunce gave Brockport its' first two runs with a single to left field.
Mike DeGregory (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) then reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a single to left center by Gerken.
DeGregory added an RBI to the box score with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored
Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) after he reached on a fielding error, stole second, and took third on a wild pitch.
Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) walked with one out in the ninth but back-to-back strikeouts ended Brockport's threat.
The regular season concludes for Brockport but the Golden Eagles will head to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament this weekend as the No. 2 seed. Brockport will take on the No. 3 seed Oneonta Red Dragons on Friday for game two of the semifinals at 3:30 pm.
