Junior Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) connected on his third hit of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases-loaded to give The College at Brockport Baseball team a 4-3 walk-off victory over Oneonta Friday in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament in Cortland.

The Golden Eagles (25-15) will play host Cortland at 1 pm Saturday in the semifinal round of the tournament as the Red Dragons won an 8-2 game over Plattsburgh in the tournament's opening game.  Plattsburgh will face Oneonta in an elimination game at 10 am Saturday.

Against Oneonta (17-20) took an early lead against the Golden Eagles with single runs in the first and third innings. Brockport took a 3-2 lead with a three-run inning in the seventh but the Red Dragons tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth.

Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) opened the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field and after Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) walked, Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners into scoring position.  Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was intentionally walked to load the bases and Bunce followed with a single to right field scoring Tracy and winning the game for the Golden Eagles.

Bunce was 3-for-4 on the day while Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and Tracy each added a pair of hits. Bunce also had two runs batted in.

In the seventh inning, Brendon Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) drew a one-out walk and Wilson followed with a single to deep shortstop to put runners on first and second. Tracy was hit by pitch to load the bases. Booth was the next batter and sent a hard drive between shortstop and third but a diving stop by the Oneonta third baseman and a force out at second base prevented multiple runs but did allow Swayne to score for Brockport's first run of the game.

Weakley singled past the third baseman with the next at bat to score Wilson and Coleman was hit by pitch to load the bases again for the Golden Eagles. Bunce stepped to the plate and hit a ground ball toward second base that was knocked down by the shortstop but not before another run scored and Bunce had reached base safely to give Brockport the 3-2 lead.

Starter James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) pitched into the ninth inning but did not figure in the decision. He allowed three earned runs and struck out four batters. Relief pitcher Justin McCarthy (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) was credited with the victory to improve to 2-2 on the season.
