The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team had a late chance to send its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest with Cortland into overtime, but the Golden Eagles fell just short, dropping the conference matchup 59-56. Alexandra Marshall (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) scored a team-high 15 points for Brockport.

Cortland led by 15 with under eight to play in the second half but the Golden Eagles battled back. Marshall sank a three with 1:07 on the clock to cut the deficit to six, 56-50. The Red Dragons missed two free throws to set up a final shot for Brockport. The Golden Eagles called a timeout and on the ensuing inbounds pass, Phoebe Byrnes' (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) three-point attempt hit off the backboard as time ran out for Brockport.

Byrnes finished the game with 13 points, hitting three three-point shots, all coming in the first half. Fordyce scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Marshall led the Golden Eagles with eight boards as Brockport outrebounded Cortland 39-34.

Brockport struggled offensively late in the first half. Marshall sank a three and converted a layup early on as Cortland led 10-8. The Golden Eagles failed to hit a field goal for 7:23 as the Red Dragons pulled ahead. Byrnes sank two three-point shots in the final 33 seconds to end the drought as Cortland led 33-20 at halftime.

Brockport trailed by double-digits most of the second half until the Golden Eagles staged their comeback. Marshall sparked the rally as the first-year member of the Golden Eagles scored four straight points with under seven to play.

With the loss, Brockport falls to 3-10 in SUNYAC play while Cortland improves to 5-6.

The Golden Eagles hit just 22.2 percent of their shots in the first half but went 14-22 (63.6 percent) in the second half to make a strong comeback. Brockport kept its counterpart to just 37.3 percent shooting on the night.

Brockport will travel to Geneseo for a SUNYAC matchup on Feb. 2. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
