The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team lost a late second half lead against Fredonia State as the Golden Eagles dropped a 63-57 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on Saturday night.
Cecilia Sigrist (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Brockport used the three-point shot midway through the second half to help build a double-digit lead. The Golden Eagles held an eight point lead with under four minutes to play, but the Blue Devils slowly chipped away. Fredonia put together a 14-0 run to close out the game and steal the conference victory.
The game was the final contest for three Golden Eagles-
Kelly Grinnell (Auburn, NY/Auburn),
Erica Johnson (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy), and
Ellen Story (Catskill, NY/Catskill). Story and Grinnell each chipped in seven points while Johnson finished with three.
The Golden Eagles held a lead the majority of the first half, leading by as much as five on three separate occasions. Fredonia took a quick lead at the 10:06 mark, but
Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) sank a three-point shot to regain the lead. The game remained close for the closing minutes of the half, but Brockport held a 26-25 halftime advantage.
The Blue Devils took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half until Grinnell drained back-to-back three-point shots to take back the lead. Brockport pulled away as
Alexandra Marshall (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) hit a three to put Brockport up 46-37. The Golden Eagles maintained its lead until the Blue Devils put together their final run as Brockport went 0-6 from the floor in the final three minutes of the game.
Sigrist did most of her damage in the second half, scoring 12 points in the final 20 minutes of the game. The double-double is the fourth of the year for the sophomore. Sigrist finishes the year averaging 10.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
10 different players reached the scoring column for the Golden Eagles. Brockport finished the game hitting six of 19 shots from beyond the arc.
