Four different Golden Eagles had two hits each and The College at Brockport Baseball team came from behind after trailing 4-0 and held on for a 7-6 victory Monday afternoon in a non-conference game against Washington & Jefferson at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, FL.
Washington & Jefferson (4-2) is the second ranked team that Brockport (8-2) has defeated this season with the Golden Eagles posting wins over nationally ranked Kean in the first game of the season and now the Presidents. The Presidents are ranked #22 in the most recent D3Baseball.com national poll.
The Presidents (4-2) scored single runs in each of the first two innings and added two more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead before Brockport (8-2) came back with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. The Golden Eagles took the lead with a run in the fifth and added two more runs in the seventh for a 7-4 lead. Washington & Jefferson rallied in the ninth inning for a pair of runs before junior Justin McCarthy (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) closed the game for his second save of the season.
Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage), Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit), Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) and Colin Grande (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had two hits each for the Golden Eagles and Hurlimann led the way with a pair of RBI.
After the Presidents took the 4-0 lead, Brockport rallied in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) singled to start the inning and Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) followed with an infield single as Bunce moved all the way to third on a throwing error by the third baseman. Hurlimann followed with a triple down the right field line chasing home Bunce and Weakley for the first two Brockport runs of the game.
Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) drew a one out walk to put runners at the corners and Grande followed with a run-scoring single. Gianni moved to third on the play and scored on an infield ground out fielder's choice play off the bat of Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton).
Brockport took the 5-4 lead in the fifth when Tracy and Wilson hit back-to-back singles to start the inning and Bunce followed with a sacrifice fly.
In the seventh, Tracy led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Wilson single. Wilson later scored on a throwing error when Washington & Jefferson attempted to turn a double play.
The Presidents made it interesting in the top of the ninth inning with a pair of runs with four hits in the inning before a ground out to third baseman Jamie Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) ended the game.
Relief pitcher Travis Renwick (Middletown, NY/Chapel Field Christian) picked up his second win of the season with three strikeouts.
