Senior Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) continued his hot streak and pounded out five hits in six at-bats leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to an 18-10 victory over Allegheny College in a non-conference matchup Wednesday at the Chain of Lakes Complex in Winter Haven, FL.
Brockport (9-3) took an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Allegheny (3-4) rallied for four runs in the top of the second to take a lead before the Golden Eagles added a single run in the bottom of the inning for the 4-4 tie. The Gators took a 5-4 lead in the next inning and Brockport answered with another single run in the seventh for another tie.
After Allegheny jumped back ahead with a three-run top of the fifth inning, Brockport pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning for the 9-8 lead. Allegheny tied the game at 9-9 in the top of the sixth before Brockport took the lead for good with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Golden Eagles added two more in the seventh but the Gators added a run in the eighth to trim the lead to 14-10 but Brockport added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 18-10 advantage and the final score.
Bunce doubled with two RBI in the first inning, singled in the second pushing home Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) for another RBI. He led off the sixth inning with a single and scored two batters later, singled scoring Coleman again in the seventh and singled to score Colin Grande (Clifton Park, NY/Shenedehowa) in the eighth to complete his five-hit afternoon.
Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had three hits for Brockport while Coleman, Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton), Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Jamie Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added two hits each as Brockport finished with 19 hits on the day.
Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage), Grande, Bunce and Weakley all had doubles for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles also turned three double plays on defense.
