A slow day offensively cost The College at Brockport baseball team two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contests as the Golden Eagles fell to New Paltz by scores of 9-1 and 3-1. Brockport falls to 10-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The Hawks got to Brockport starter
Travis Renwick (Middletown, NY/Chapel Field Christian) in the third inning, scoring two runs. New Paltz added three more in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored Brockport's lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Golden Eagles collected just four hits compared to the Hawks' 15 on the day.
The struggles continued for Brockport in game two with the Golden Eagles picking up just three hits off New Paltz starter Chris Chismar. The Hawks took the initial 1-0 lead in the fifth inning but Brockport rallied to score a run in the bottom half of the frame. Coleman singled to right field to score
Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and knot the game at one.
New Paltz came back in the sixth to score two off of
James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger). Brockport failed to put a runner on base over the final two innings as New Paltz completed the doubleheader sweep.
Bardenett worked all seven innings on the mound, giving up 11 hits and striking out four batters.
The two teams will meet for the final game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm.
