Senior Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) connected on his second grand slam of the season to propel The College at Brockport baseball team to a game one victory over Stevens Tech Saturday night. The Golden Eagles completed the doubleheader sweep with a 4-0 victory in the nightcap.

Leading 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning, Bunce delivered a shot on a 3-1 pitch to right field, scoring Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage), Jake Coleman (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Brendan Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge). On the very next at bat, Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) drove a 2-2 pitch to center field for his first home run of the year. Coleman carried Brockport both offensively and on the mound as the senior collected three hits while pitching five innings to pick up his first win of the year.

Freshman Tyler Clifford (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) dazzled on the mound in game two for the Golden Eagles as the freshman struck out a career-high nine batters to pick up his first complete game victory. Clifford allowed just three hits and did not issue a walk on the day. Coleman provided most of the scoring for Brockport, rounding the bases three times as Brockport improved to 17-13 on the year.

Stevens took the initial lead in game one, scoring in the bottom of the first. Coleman's hot hitting got started in the second inning as the senior drove in Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) with a single up the middle. Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) put the Golden Eagles up 3-1 after scoring on a throwing error in the third.

Bunce extended the lead with an RBI double, scoring Coleman in the fourth. The Ducks tacked on two runs in the fifth to cut into Brockport's lead. Bunce came to bat in the sixth and blasted a shot over the right field wall for his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Hurlimann's round-tripper put the Golden Eagles up 9-3. Both Bunce and Hurlimann scored in the eighth to round out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.

Coleman finished game one 3-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Bunce finished the day with his second five RBI performance of the year while Hurlimann, Burghardt and Wilson all picked up two hits for the Golden Eagles.

Clifford stole the show in game two with the best performance of his young career. The freshman allowed a single in the second and two hits in the seventh inning before escaping the frame without allowing a run. Clifford improved to 2-0 on the year with the victory.

Coleman scored the game's first run on an RBI single from Hurlimann and put Brockport up 2-0 on an RBI single from Bunce in the fifth. The senior scored his third consecutive run on a wild pitch in the seventh as Clifford sat the Ducks down in order in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Weakley provided the fourth and final run in the ninth inning, scoring on a single from Tracy. Clifford struck out two batters in the ninth to finish off the complete game victory.

Brockport will take on Keystone tomorrow afternoon on the road with a 1:00 pm start.
