Box Score

Sophomore Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored the lone goal in the first half for The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team Saturday as the Golden Eagles fell behind 4-1 but did make a comeback effort late in the contest that fell short as Oswego scored a 5-4 victory in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in Brockport.

Oswego (6-7 Overall, 3-3 SUNYAC) scored the first two goals of the game taking a 2-0 lead with 8:35 left to play in the first half. Tassone scored at the 6:30 mark to pull the Golden Eagles (10-5, 4-3) to within a goal and neither team was able to score for the remainder of the half.

In the second half, the Lakers scored twice in the first two minutes of the period to take a 4-1 lead.

Senior Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) started the Brockport comeback after a missed Brockport shot. Brown took possession behind the cage and moved forward to the right of the Oswego goalie before spinning and firing a shot from close range into the lower corner of the net.

The Lakers answered eight minutes later to regain the three-goal advantage. Brockport's offense continued to struggle over the next 10 minutes of action as the Golden Eagles had trouble finding open shots and when they did, were either wide with the attempt or ran into Oswego goalie Nikki Greco who finished with 17 saves.

Sophomore Katie Sullivan (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) ended the Brockport cold spell with a free position goal at the 5:16 mark of the period.

With close to two minutes left in the second half, junior Danielle Messimer (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) caused a turnover at midfield and picked up the ground ball to start the Golden Eagles into the transition. Brown worked behind the cage and fed a pass to Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) who scored to trim the lead to 5-4 with 1:51 left on the clock.

Brockport won the ensuing draw but were unable to get a shot off in the closing seconds of the game.
