Golden Eagles Roll Over RIT 8-2

Four different players from The College at Brockport baseball team collected two hits on Tuesday afternoon as the Golden Eagles defeated visiting RIT 8-2 at the Clark V. Whited Complex. James Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) picked up his fourth win of the year on the mound.

The Golden Eagles struck first with two runs in the second as Colin Grande (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) doubled to right center to put Brockport up 2-0. Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) singled in the fourth to give Brockport a three-run advantage. RIT responded with two runs in the fifth to cut into Brockport's lead. The Golden Eagles broke the game open over the next two innings, tacking on five runs.

Grande finished the game with two doubles while Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) scored twice while collecting two hits on the day. Nick Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) raised his team-leading batting average to .349 after going 2-4. Bunce has reached base safely in his last 11 games. Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) drove in one run while scoring another after going 2-4 at the plate.

Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) singled in the second inning to score Hurlimann for Brockport's first run. After Weakley put Brockport up 3-0, RIT got two runs off of Bardenett in the fifth, but the senior settled down over the next two frames, allowing just one base runner.

Peake's RBI came in the fifth after singling to center to score Hurlimann, giving Brockport a 4-2 advantage. Weakley picked up his second RBI in the inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Peake.

Brockport's biggest inning came in the sixth as Grande led off with a double. Two batters later, Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) singled to score the freshman for Brockport's sixth run. Wilson later scored on a fielder's choice from Hurlimann and Bunce finished off the Brockport scoring with a run on a wild pitch.

Mark Driesel (Kent, NY/Kendall) pitched a scoreless eighth and Kyle Montross (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) finished off the game in the ninth to seal the victory for Brockport.

The Golden Eagles improved to 22-15 overall and 16-3 in nonconference games this year.
