Anna Feller (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) scored a career-high 18 points, but The College at Brockport women's basketball team fell to Plattsburgh 76-64 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Brockport (5-4, 1-1 SUNYAC) got onto the board first as
Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) hit a jumper to open up scoring at 18:38. Feller added a layup a minute later to put the Golden Eagles up 4-0.
Plattsburgh (8-3 ,3-1 SUNYAC) made two free throws and a layup to tie things up at 4.
Three minutes passed as both teams traded missed shots back-and-forth.
The Cardinals took their first lead of the game with a free throw at 14:28. Plattsburgh then went on a 17-6 run, to take a 12 point lead with under six minutes to play in the half.
The Golden Eagles chipped away at the Plattsburgh lead and found themselves down by just one point after
Emily Leone (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) hit a free throw with 26 seconds left.
Plattsburgh hit a jump shot in the final seconds of the half to head into halftime with a 31-28 lead.
Both teams traded a one point lead back-and-forth in the beginning of the second half. Brockport was up 40-39 with 15:25 left in the game, but a quick jump shot from the Cardinals gave Plattsburgh the lead that they would hold onto.
Plattsburgh recorded their largest lead of the game in the final two minutes of play, going up by 18 points after putting together a 33-16 run to finish off the game.
Feller led the Golden Eagles with 18 points (9-of-14) and two steals. Welch added 16 points and Leone chipped in eight.
Hannalee Fordyce (Amityville, NY/Copiague),
Kaitlin Hammersley (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) and
Alexandra Marshall (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) each finished with five rebounds.
Brockport finished the game with a 41.4% (24-of-58) shooting percentage. The Golden Eagles were 26.3% (5-of-19) from long range and 61.1% (11-of-18) from the free throw line.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday night at 6 pm for a SUNYAC matchup at home against Fredonia.
