Gymnastics Edges Springfield on the Road

Golden Eagles win three events and dominate the balance beam scores

Lexi King won floor and tied for second on the vault for Brockport.

Junior Olivia Sylvestro (Palm City, FL/Martin County) won the vault, junior Stephanie Schuler (Purcellville, VA/Hickory) won the balance beam and senior Lexi King (Glendale, AZ/Mountain Ridge) won the floor exercise leading The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to its second victory to start the season with a close 185.375-185.000 victory over Springfield College Tuesday afternoon in Springfield, MA.

Sylvestro nearly tied her career-high of 9.70 with a 9.675 on the vault while Amanda Carney (Walpole, MA) and King tied for second in the event each with scores of 9.625. For King, the score was a career high while Carney tied her career best with her effort. Haylee Garrick (Myrtle Beach, SC/Carolina Forest) and Gabrielle Petitto (Selden, NY/Newfield) each scored 9.5 as the Golden Eagles finished with a team score of 47.925.

Schuler had the best score on the beam with a 9.65 as the Golden Eagles recorded four of the top five scores of the afternoon in the event. Freshman Jennifer Sklenar (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) had a 9.5 which was tied for second and Samantha Spaid (Green, OH/Green) was fourth with a 9.425 and Lily Jagodzinski (Tonawanda, NY/Williamsville North) was fifth with a 9.35.

King led the way on the floor with a 9.55 while Sklenar was second with a 9.525. Jagodzinski and Sylvestro each score 9.275 with their routines.

Schuler had the highest Golden Eagles score on the uneven bars with a 9.475 while senior Casey Addis (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) finished her routine with a 9.075 for Brockport.
