Junior pitcher Mike McFerran (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) threw 5 2/3 solid innings and combined with three relief pitchers for The College at Brockport Baseball team to shut out Ripon College Tuesday night in an added game to the schedule at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida.

The Golden Eagles (7-2) were originally scheduled to play at noon against Fontbonne College but wet field conditions eventually cancelled that game and both Brockport and Ripon (0-4) were looking to add a game and faced off in a 7 pm contest.

Brockport took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and added single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings for the victory.

McFerran combined with Jake Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and Bradley Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) for the shutout victory. McFerran allowed four hits while Stankiewicz and Westling each allowed one as the pitching quartet limited the Red Hawks to six hits in the game.

In the second inning, Brendan Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) doubled to start the inning and Lou Mastellone (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) moved him to third with a ground out to the right side of the infield. Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) singled through the left side of the infield to score Swayne but later was thrown out attempting to steal second base for the second out of the inning.

Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) walked and stole second before Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) singled to right centerfield to score Barbetto from second for the 2-0 lead.

Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) was hit by pitch and Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) followed with a single to right centerfield to score Gianni from second for the 3-0 Golden Eagle lead.

Mastellone singled home John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) with two outs in the fifth inning and Craig singled home Tracy in the sixth as Brockport took a 5-0 lead.

In the eighth inning, Raymond Bozek (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Lakeland) was inserted as a pinch runner and scored when Swayne singled to left field to cap the scoring for Brockport.

Burghardt finished 3-for-5while Craig, Swayne and Hamula added two hits each. Six different players had runs batted in for Brockport in the balanced attack.
