Baseball Falls to Farmingdale in the Ninth Inning

Golden Eagles come back to tie the score before a sacrifice fly ends game

Sophomore Colin Grande (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) doubled to score senior Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) in the top of the eighth inning as The College at Brockport Baseball team tied the score at 8-8 with Farmingdale State Saturday afternoon but the Rams scored in the bottom of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly of their own to post a 9-8 victory.

Brockport (1-1) fell behind early as Farmingdale (2-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Golden Eagles rallied for five runs in the top of the second to take a lead and the Rams cut the lead back to a run with a single run in the bottom of the second making it a 5-4 Brockport lead.

Brockport added a run in the third for a 6-4 lead but in the bottom of the fourth inning, Farmingdale tied the score with four base hits and then took a two-run lead with a pair of unearned runs as a result of an infield error. The Golden Eagles scored twice in the eighth to knot the score as Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) walked and scored on a sacrifice fly before Grande doubled home Hamula.

In the second inning, junior Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an error after Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) singled. Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) both walked to load the bases. Senior Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) walked to force in another run before Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) doubled to score three runs but was thrown out at third base to end the inning.

In the third inning, Tracy doubled and moved to third with a sacrifice bunt by Hamula before Kenney lifted a sacrifice fly to center field for the 6-4 Brockport advantage.

Tracy and Hamula each finished with two hits to lead the Brockport offense while Peake led the team with three runs batted in.
