Box Score Senior Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) as The College at Brockport Baseball team scored twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh inning to post a 5-4 victory over Plattsburgh Friday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game played at Siena College in Loudonville, NY.
The Golden Eagles (12-9 Overall, 4-6 SUNYAC) fell behind early allowing a run in the bottom of the first inning but neither team was able to score again until the sixth inning.
Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) walked to start the inning and Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was hit by pitch to put runners on first and second. Wesley Burghardt (Chittenenago, NY/Chittenango) reached base on a fielder's choice but all runners were safe loading the bases for the Golden Eagles.
Hurlimann followed with a single up the middle to score a pair of runners and giving Brockport a 2-1 lead.
The Brockport offense continued in the seventh with three more runs. Brendan Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) singled to start the inning and advanced to third as Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) reached base on a fielding error. Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) moved Peake to second and scored Swayne with a sacrifice bunt.
After a fly out to centerfield for the second out of the inning, Hamula doubled down the left field line scoring Peake and Burghardt singled through the left side to score Hamula and give Brockport a 5-1 lead.
Plattsburgh (8-15, 3-6) pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to narrow the gap and added two more in the eighth to make it a one-run game at 5-4.
In the ninth, the Golden Eagles went down 1-2-3 on three strikeouts and Plattsburgh nearly tied it in the bottom of the inning. The Cardinals singled to start the inning and a hit batter put two runners on with no outs. The Cardinals tried to sacrifice the runners over but the lead runner was thrown out at third leaving runners on first and second with one out. After a fly out to left field for the second out reliever Bradley Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) struck out the final batter to end the game.
Hurlimann led the way with his three hits and two runs batted in while Hamula and Burghardt each finished with two hits and one run batted in. Starter
Matthew Coleman (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) went 6 1/3 innings with the start and picked up his third win of the season.
