Box Score Senior Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) had two hits and scored from third base on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning and The College at Brockport Baseball team held on for a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon over New Paltz in a make-up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game played at Siena College in Loudonville, NY.
The game was originally scheduled for March 30 but was postponed due to weather conditions.
Brockport (14-10 Overall, 6-7 SUNYAC) scored first with a pair of runs in the fifth inning but New Paltz (12-17, 4-9) responded to tie the game in the bottom of the inning with two runs. The Golden Eagles took the lead for good when Tracy scored in the sixth and then Brockport added an insurance run in the ninth for the 4-2 win.
In the fifth, Colin Grande (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) reached base with one out on a fielding error and Brendan Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) followed with a single through the right side of the infield to put runners on first and second. Bother runners moved up on a wild pitch and with two outs, Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) singled up the middle to score both runners. Barbetto was thrown out at second base to end the inning but not before both runs had scored.
In the bottom of the inning, New Paltz started the inning with a pair of singles including an infield single but the lead runner was thrown out at third attempting to steal. The next batter doubled to bring home one run and the second run came home two batters later on a single. Zack Melino (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) came on to retire the next batter for the final out of the inning.
In the sixth, Tracy singled to start the inning and Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) singled to put two runners on. Tracy moved to third on a fly out and scored one batter later on the wild pitch.
New Paltz rallied with two outs in the eighth with two runners on with a pair of walks and two outs. Senior Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) came on in relief to record the final out of the inning and leave two runners on base.
The Golden Eagles added a fourth run in the ninth inning. Grande and Swayne each drew a two-out walks before John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) singled through the right side to score Grande from third.
Stankiewicz threw a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the ninth to record his first save and Melino was credited with his first victory for Brockport.
