Box Score Junior Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) scored on a wild pitch and senior Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) scored on a ground out both in the first inning for The College at Brockport Baseball team but that is all the scoring the Golden Eagles would do as St. John Fisher, ranked #22 in the country, rebounded to score a 9-2 victory Wednesday afternoon in Rochester.
Gianni and Kenney opened the game with consecutive walks before Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) used a sacrifice bunt to put the runners into scoring position. A ground out to the right side of the infield by Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) allowed Gianni to score from third.
Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was hit by pitch to put runners on the corners and Kenney trotted home on a wild pitch to give Brockport (19-14) a 2-0 lead.
St. John Fisher (20-6) tied the game in the second inning and took a 4-2 lead with two more runs In the fourth.
Brockport loaded the bases in the fifth with singles by Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) and a hit by pitch to Gianni. The Cardinals recovered to strike out the next batter and a double play ended the inning and the Brockport scoring threat.
Fisher broke the game open in the bottom of the inning pushing across four runs for an 8-2 lead. The Cardinals added an insurance run in the seventh for the final score.
Kenney was one of the seven Golden Eagles to get hits as he doubled in the third inning. Hurlimann had the lone run batted in with his first inning ground out. St. John Fisher pounded out 15 hits.
