Box Score 2 Sophomore Colin Grande (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had three hits in the opener and one more in the nightcap leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to an 18-5 win in the first game and a 10-1 victory in game two as the Golden Eagles swept a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader from Oneonta Friday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport.
Brockport (21-12 Overall, 10-7 SUNYAC) had 15 hits in the opener including a double by Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North), a triple by Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) and a two-run home run by Grande.
Oneonta (11-22, 6-9) scored early as the leadoff batter connected on a home run over the left field fence for the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles responded scoring three times each in the first, third and fourth innings for a 9-1 lead. The Red Dragons rallied to score four times in the top of the sixth inning trimming the lead to 9-5 but Brockport exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning for a commanding 15-5 lead.
Brockport tacked on three more runs in the eighth for the final score.
In the sixth, Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) led off the inning with a single and Grande followed with a shot to right field for the two-run home run. Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) was hit by pitch in the next at bat and stole second to move into scoring position. Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) singled to score Wilson. Barbetto singled to continue the streak of hits before John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) flew out for the first out of the inning. Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) walked to load the bases.
With two outs, Hurlimann walked to force in one run and Kenney singled for the second time in the inning to score two more runs before the final out was recorded in the six-run inning.
In game two, Brockport took the early lead with three runs in the first inning with just one hit as the Golden Eagles scored two runs on wild pitches before Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) singled home Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) for the 3-0 lead.
Oneonta answered with a run in the top of the third but Brockport scored four times in the bottom of the inning for a 7-1 advantage. Kenney started the rally with a one-out single and Burghardt followed with another single before Hurlimann walked to load the bases.
Lander lifted a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield that was dropped allowing two runs to score. Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) flowed with a single to score Hurlimann from third. A double steal moved Hamula to second and Lander stole home on the play to cap the four-run inning.
Justin McCarthy (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) started the opener and picked up his fourth win of the season and Tyler Clifford (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) threw five solid innings to earn the victory in the nightcap.
