Baseball Completes Sweep of Oneonta

Six seniors get hits on Senior Day as Brockport clinches No. 2 seed in SUNYAC Tournament

Senior Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) had two hits and two runs batted in and five other seniors also had hits as The College at Brockport Baseball team completed a sweep of eh three-game series with Oneonta Saturday with a 10-5 win in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular season finale at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport.

Hurlimann led the senior celebration for Brockport (22-12 Overall, 11-7 SUNYAC) while fellow seniors Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage), Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit), Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside)and Lou Mastellone (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) each had a hit for the Golden Eagles.

The win moved Brockport into sole possession of second place in the final SUNYAC standings and will face Oswego in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament that begins Friday in Cortland.

Oneonta (11-23, 6-10) scored twice in the first inning and one more in the second to take the early 3-0 lead.

Brockport cut into the lead with a run in the third when Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) singled home Wilson from third. The Golden Eagles took the lead back in the fifth with a three-run inning.

Senior Bradley Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) opened the inning with a walk and Jimmy Lovelass (Vestal, NY/Vestal) was inserted in the lineup as a pinch runner. Wilson followed with a double down the left field line and Mastellone singled to score both runners to tie the score.

With two outs and runners on the corners, Hurlimann delivered the go-ahead run with a single to right field that scored Mastellone for the 4-3 lead.

Brockport broke the game open in the next inning scoring six times.

Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) walked to open the inning and John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) singled. With two outs, Tracy was hit by pitch to load the bases and Gianni followed with a two-run single to center field. Burghardt doubled to score two more runners.

Hurlimann was up next and doubled down the right field line to score Burghardt and scored on a single by Hamula to complete the big inning for Brockport.

Oneonta added two runs in the eighth but could get no closer as the Brockport bullpen closed out the game.

Senior Matthew Coleman (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) started and pitched into the third inning before fellow senior Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) took over with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Senior Jake Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) tossed the final 1 2/3 innings recording three strikeouts.
