Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) had three of the seven hits for The College at Brockport Baseball team Thursday as the Golden Eagles dropped a 6-2 decision to Fredonia in a State University of New York Athletic Conferences (SUNYAC) game played at Houghton College. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday in Brockport but was moved to the neutral site due to field conditions.

Fredonia (6-8 Overall, 2-2 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning and after Brockport (11-5, 3-3) came back with a single run in the fourth, scored two more to take a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth. The Golden Eagles added another run in the bottom of the fifth but the Blue Devils added single runs in the seventh and eighth inning to seal the victory.

A bases loaded walk followed by a ground out allowed Fredonia to score twice in the first inning for the early lead. The first two Brockport batters in the bottom of the first reached base with walks but Fredonia was able to get out of the inning with a double play.

In the fourth, Brockport scored on a bases loaded wild pitch. Burghardt singled up the middle and John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) singled to right field and Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was hit by pitch to load the bases with two outs in the inning. A wild pitch to Brendon Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) allowed Burghardt to score. After Swayne walked, Brockport ended the inning with bases loaded.

Mike Gianni (Jamseville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) drew one-out walks in the fifth inning before Burghardt singled to right to load the bases again for Brockport. Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to cut the lead in half.

Burghardt had three hits while Gianni, Craig and Swayne added a hit each. Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) added a pinch-hit base hit in the ninth inning.
