Box Score Seniors Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) and Dan Hurlimann (Rochester, NY/Hilton) each hit home runs in the fourth inning leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to a 10-3 victory over Ithaca College Saturday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport.
Brockport (26-16) will now wait for the NCAA Division III Tournament selection Sunday night to see if it will receive an at-large bid to the tournament. The Golden Eagles entered the week as the No. 6 ranked team in the New York Region but posted wins over St. John Fisher, ranked No. 3 in the region and Ithaca, the No. 2 regionally ranked team. Cortland, Farmingdale State and Rochester are the other three teams ranked ahead of Brockport.
Against Ithaca (26-10), Brockport fell behind in the second inning as the Bombers scored a run to take the early 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Brockport pushed across three runs to take the lead for good and tacked on six more runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 9-1 advantage.
Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) started the three-run third as he was hit by pitch and advanced to second on a ground out with the hit-and-run with Pete Wilson (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit).
Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) walked before Tracy reached on a fielder's choice as Kenney was forced out at third for the second out of the inning. Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) doubled to left centerfield to score Barbetto and Tracy and Hurlimann followed with a single up the middle to score Burghardt for the 3-1 Brockport lead.
In the fourth, Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) singled to start the inning and Kenney hit a one out single to put runners on first and second. With two outs in the inning, Barbetto singled to right field to score Gianni and Tracy followed with his third home run in as many games with a blast over the right centerfield fence as Brockport took a 7-1 lead. Burghardt kept the rally going with a single to left centerfield and Hurlimann sent a shot over the right field fence scoring two more runs and boosting the Golden Eagle lead to 9-1.
Ithaca scored a run in the fifth and each team scored a single run in the seventh for the final score.
In the bottom of the seventh, Corey Hamula (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) hit a one out double down the left field line and Kenney singled him home with the next at bat in the inning.
Senior Matthew Coleman (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) started and pitched five innings allowing two runs on eight hits to earn his fourth victory of the season. Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili), Jake Bunce (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Bradley Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) combined to throw the final four innings as the trio allowed just one run on four hits and striking out five to finish the game.
Hurlimann led the team with three hits and three runs batted in while Tracy also knocked in three. Burghardt, Hamula and Kenney had two hits each while Barbetto and Tracy score two runs each.
