Sophomore Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) had three hits but The College at Brockport Baseball team struggled to score as Oswego came back to win a 4-1 decision Friday in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament in Cortland. The No. 2 seed Golden Eagles will play No. 4 Oneonta at 10 am Saturday after Oneonta dropped a 9-1 decision to Cortland earlier Friday.

Brockport (22-13) opened the scoring in the third inning with its only run of the game. Oswego (20-10) answered with single runs in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings for the final score.

In the third, Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) singled to start the inning and stole second. Kyle Tracy (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) used a sacrifice bunt to move Barbetto to third and Mike Gianni (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for the only Brockport run of the game.

Oswego scored an unearned run in the fourth to tie the score and took the lead in the sixth inning on another unearned run due to errors. The Lakers added another run in the seventh before Brockport ended the inning on a double play and pushed another run across the plate in the eighth before the Golden Eagles turned another double play to end that inning.

Burghardt led the way with three hits while Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Barbetto added two hits each for Brockport. Matthew Coleman (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) went seven innings allowing all four runs with two of them earned and struck out four before Rob Stankiewicz (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) came on to pitch two scoreless innings to close out the game.
