Box Score Senior John Craig (Clifton Park, Ny/Shenendehowa) had three hits while Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North), Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) and Brendan Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) had two hits each as The College at Brockport Baseball team pounded out 11 hits but scored just a single run as Oswego opened a three-game State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) series with a 15-1 victory Friday at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Florida.
Oswego (8-4 overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored twice in the first inning and three more times in the second for the early 5-0 lead.
Brockport (6-4, 0-1) answered in the bottom of the third loading the bases with singles by Swayne and Barbetto along with a walk to Chris Davis (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden). Burghardt hit an infield single to score Swayne from third but a line drive out to third base by Sean Geisel (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) with the next at bat ended the inning for the Golden Eagles.
After a scoreless fourth, Oswego added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and scored four more in the seventh to take a 12-1 lead. The Lakers closed out the scoring with three more runs in the top of the ninth for the 15-1 final score.
The Golden Eagles threatened in the eighth and ninth innings putting runners on base with one out but double plays ended each inning.
Craig finished 3-for-4, Swayne and Burghardt were each 2-for-4 and Barbetto was 2-for-5. Burghardt had the lone RBI and Swayne the only run scored for Brockport.
The Golden Eagles and Lakers meet for a doubleheader Saturday with game one starting at 11 am at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
