Box Score 2 Junior Brett Sanders (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had three hits on the day but The College at Brockport Baseball team dropped a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games to Oswego Saturday afternoon with 7-1 and 2-1 losses as the Golden Eagles wrapped up the annual Spring Training trip to Florida.
In the opener, Oswego (9-4 Overall, 3-0 SUNYAC) scored single runs in the first and second innings but opened it up with a four-run inning in the fourth. Brockport (6-6, 0-3) answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) reached on an error to start the inning and moved to third on a Josh Martin (Depew, NY/Depew) single two batters later. After Martin was thrown out at second on a steal attempt, Sean Geisel (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) hit an infield single to third base that allowed Burghardt to score.
Oswego added another run in the fifth for the final score.
Sanders and Martin were each 2-for-3 in the game while Burghardt, Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North), Geisel and Greg Ruddy (Troy, NY/Troy) each had a hit.
Adam Pratt (Batavia, NY/Batavia) started for Brockport and Jeffrey Prouse (Eden, ONT/Glendale) came on for 3 2/3 innings of solid relief allowing just one run on four hits while striking out eight batters.
In game two, Oswego jumped out to a lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings but did not score again the rest of the game. Brockport was held scoreless until the eighth inning.
Eli Carrera (Rochester, NYFranklin) singled to start the inning and was lifted for a pinch runner as Luke Gilbert (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) came into the game. Ruddy reached on a fielding error by the Oswego shortstop and his throwing error allowed Gilbert to move to third. Barbetto layed down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the first base line moving Ruddy to second and score Gilbert to cut the lead in half.
A pair of ground outs ended the inning and the Golden Eagles were retired in order in the ninth to end the game.
Seven different players each had a hit for Brockport.
Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) started and threw a great game with eight innings of work scattering nine hits and allowing just two runs. He walked three batters and struck out four.
