Box Score Senior Dakota Stackhouse (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) allowed just one run and three hits over seven innings leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Stevenson University Sunday morning in the final game of a three-game trip to Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Stevenson (0-4-1) took a 1-0 lead with its only run of the game in the third inning but Brockport (2-1) rallied for two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth for the 6-1 win.
The Mustangs opened the scoring in the third as Stackhouse walked two batters with two outs and then gave up a base hit scoring one run before surrendering the final batter of the inning. Stackhouse finished with five strikeouts and three walks and three hits. Two of the three hits were a single and a double to start the second inning before he settled down and retired the next three batters in order.
Brockport took the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs. Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) hit a one out single and Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) followed with a walk. Brett Sanders (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was inserted as a pinch runner and Chris Davis (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) ripped a double to the right-centerfield gap scoring both runners.
Sanders singled to right with two runners on in the seventh scoring Greg Ruddy (Troy, NY/Troy) from second for the 3-1 Brockport lead.
Stackhouse retired Stevenson in order in the bottom of the seventh and Brockport opened it up in the eighth with three runs. With two outs, Brandon Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) singled and advanced to second with a wild pitch scoring a pitch later as Luke Gilbert (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) singled up the middle. Josh Martin (Depew, NY/Depew) hit an infield single to the right side between first and second to move Gilbert to second.
Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) came on as a pinch hitter and ripped a single through the right side of the infield to score Gilbert. After a pitching change, Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) doubled to left field scoring Martin and capping the Brockport scoring.
Lander stayed in the game to pitch and retired seven of the next 10 batters to seal the victory.
Martin finished with three hits in a 3-for-4 day and Davis added a pair of hits going 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.
