Box Score Senior Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown), senior Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) and junior Josh Martin (Depew, NY/Depew) all picked up multiple hits during The College at Brockport's 6-2 non-conference loss to St. John Fisher College on Wednesday night.
Brockport (13-11, 6-7 SUNYAC) was outhit in the contest 15-7 scoring two runs late in the game attempting to rally from an early deficit. The Golden Eagles were primed for a big eighth inning with the first two runners on base with no outs.
Timothy Segrue (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led the eighth inning off with a single before exiting the game for pinch runner Justin LaRosa (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg). Leadoff hitter Brett Sanders (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) worked a base on balls – to put runners at first and second with no outs.
Barbetto hit a grounder to the third baseman that advanced both runners to second and third before the next batter grounded out to the pitcher. The Golden Eagles managed to score a run when first baseman Chris Davis (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) reached base on a throwing error from the Cardinals third baseman. Drew DeBlasiis (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) worked the second walk of the inning for Brockport but Brockport was unable to knock in anymore Golden Eagles.
St. John Fisher added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to score the final run of the game. The Golden Eagles attempts at a ninth inning rally were unable to get going after an initial walk from Kenney.
Barbetto scored the first run of the game for Brockport in the sixth inning after hitting a one out single and advancing all the way to third on a throwing error and a failed pickoff attempt. Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) sent Barbetto across the plate with a grounder to the shortstop that made the score 3-1.
The Golden Eagles play Union College tomorrow at Amsterdam Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, NY at 6:30 pm.
