Box Score Senior John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had a strong performance going three-for-four at the plate and scoring two runs but The College at Brockport Baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Union 7-5 Wednesday night at Amsterdam Shuttleworth Park.
Brockport (13-12 overall, 6-7 SUNYAC) rallied in the sixth to score three runs as two straight singles and one double scored two runs. Junior Chris Davis (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to third on a single from Craig. Junior Eli Carrera (Rochester, NY/Franklin) hit a singled up the middle to score Davis. Freshman Jack Wallwork (Geneva, NY/Geneva) ripped a double down the right field line that allowed Craig to score and Carrera to advance to third. Carrera would score on a ground out from senior Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown) to bring the score to 5-4 after six innings.
Union (13-8) tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh off of a home run but Brockport responded with one run in the top of the eighth. With Carrera on second and two outs, freshman Luke Gilbert (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit a single to shortstop, scoring Carrera. In the top of the ninth, Brockport started to rally as senior Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) hit a one out single through the left side but a strike out and pop up in foul territory ended the game.
The Golden Eagles were in a 2-0 deficit to start the fourth inning. Craig led off the inning with a hard hit single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly from Wallwork would score Craig to make it 2-1 after four innings. Union scored three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead into the sixth.
Gilbert finished two-for-four with two runs scored and one run batted in while Wallwork went one-for-three with two runs batted in. Senior Dakota Stackhouse (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) suffered his third loss of the season pitching four and 2/3 innings and striking out two.
The Golden Eagles return home this Saturday as they host Medialle in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
