Senior Jeffrey Prouse (Eden, ONT/Glendale) pitched a one-hitter en route to a 9-0 victory for The College at Brockport Baseball team against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent New Paltz after posting a 2-1 win in extra innings on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Sports Complex.  With the two wins, Brockport (17-14 overall, 9-8 SUNYAC) clinched the third seed in the SUNYAC Tournament set to start Friday in Cortland.

Prouse earned his second victory of the season in dominating fashion allowing only one hit and striking out a career high nine batters as a Golden Eagle.  In game one of the doubleheader junior Eli Carrera (Rochester, NY/Franklin) drove in the game winning run for Brockport in the bottom of the tenth.

In game one, the score was tied at one after nine innings.  New Paltz (7-21, 4-13) threatened in the top of the tenth with a runner on second with one out but a fly out and a ground out ended the inning.  In the bottom of the inning junior Chris Davis (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) drew a walk with one out and advanced to second on a single from senior John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa).  After freshman Luke Gilbert (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) pinch ran for Davis, both runners advanced on a wild pitch.  With two outs and the game winning run ninety feet away, Carrera dug in and ripped a single through the left side, scoring Gilbert.

The Golden Eagles gave up one run in the first but tied the game in the fourth.  Davis singled to left center field and advanced to third on a single from Craig.  Davis scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Sean Geisel (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland).

In a pitching battle junior Tyler Clifford (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) earned his third win of the season after throwing a complete game and striking out three while only allowing five hits.  Craig finished game one four-for-five at the plate.

The Golden Eagles started game two on a high note scoring two runs off of three hits in the first inning.  Junior Brett Sanders (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) led off with a single up the middle and stole second.  Sanders advanced to third on a fly out from senior Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) and would score as junior Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) singled up the middle.  Burghardt would then score on a double down the right field line from Carrera.

Brockport scored three runs in the second as Gilbert singled up the middle, stole second and would score on a single from Sanders.  Senior Lou Mastellone (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) took advantage of a wild pitch to score the Golden Eagles fourth run of the game.

Senior Brendan Swayne (Seaford, NY/Plainedge) blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence to extend Brockport's lead to 7-0 after three innings.  The Golden Eagles tallied their last two runs of the game in the fourth as Carrera hit his first home run of his Brockport career.  Prouse pitched six and two thirds innings before being relieved by fellow senior Kevin Harman (Penfield, NY/Penfield) who recorded the final out of the game.

Carrera finished the second game two-for-two with three runs batted in and scoring two runs himself.  Sanders went two-for-three with one run scored and one run batted in.

The Golden Eagles are set to finish the series against New Paltz Sunday at noon.  Brockport will travel to Cortland for the SUNYAC Tournament and will face the number two seed Oswego (23-8, 14-4) at 3:30 pm on Friday.
