Box Score Junior Chris Davis (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) went two-for-four at the plate and drove in one run leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to a 6-2 non-conference win over University of Rochester Tuesday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Sports Complex.
Brockport (19-14) scored two runs in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Davis crushed a double to right center and junior Eli Carrera (Rochester, NY/Franklin) drew a walk to get two runners on with one out. Senior Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) ripped a single up the middle to score Davis and advance Carrera to third. Carrera took advantage of a wild pitch for Brockport's game-winning run.
In the top of the eighth, Rochester (24-12) tallied two runs to cut Brockport's lead to one but aggressive base running allowed Brockport to answer back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Drew DeBlasiis (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) advanced to second on a passed ball after pinch running for Carrera who led off the inning by reaching first on a fielding error by the first basemen. Kenney drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. Freshman Jack Wallwork (Geneva, NY/Geneva) hit a groundball to the pitcher who made a throwing error to first, allowing Wallwork to advance to third and both runners to score. Senior Shawn Peake (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) drove in Wallwork with a single to right field.
The Golden Eagles' first run of the game came in the third as senior Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown) scored on a single from Davis. Rochester had a strong opportunity to score in the sixth as they had a runner on second with one out but junior shortstop Greg Ruddy (Troy, NY/Troy) made a heads up play, fielding a ground ball and throwing it to third basemen Wallwork who tagged the runner out.
Senior Dakota Stackhouse (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) threw five strong innings in his third win of the season. Stackhouse struck out five while only giving up one walk and two hits. Sophomore Nick Jerolimov (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) recorded his first save of the season after striking out two and allowing no hits over one and one third innings pitched. Kenney finished one-for-two at the plate with one run batted in and scoring one run himself while Peake went two-for-two with one run batted in.
