Brockport Shines in RIC Quad Meet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team posted a decisive win on Sunday, blowing by Ithaca College, Springfield College and Rhode Island College for their second win of the season.
 
The Golden Eagles posted a team score of 187.600 for the first place finish, a full four points better than their competitors. Ithaca scored a 183.200, while Springfield took third with a score of 183.050. The hosts, Rhode Island, posted a score of 176.375.
 
Brockport dominated its competition, placing first in every event. The Golden Eagles highest score of the meet came on the vault, a 47.400, with several gymnasts shining in the event. Stephanie Mager vaulted a 9.550 for not only the Brockport best, but the meet high, while Jen Sklenar and Brittany Vasile took second, turning in vaults of 9.475. Candis Kowalik and Bridgette Schaal rounded out the top five, each scoring 9.450.
 
The Green and Gold squad wasn't far behind their stellar vault score on the beam, with a team score of 47.075 on the event. Sklenar was the Golden Eagle's top performer in the event, with her routine turning in a score of 9.675, which was also the best score of the meet. Kowalik notched a 9.575, with Kendra Bushart scoring a 9.525 on the beam.
 
On the floor, the Green and Gold continued to shine, scoring a meet best 46.825. Two gymnasts turned in scores of 9.400, the meets high scores, in Sklenar and Kowalik and two scored a 9.350, in Casey Sullivan and Taylor Keough, which was good enough for second overall.
 
The Golden Eagles rounded out the meet on the bars, again claiming the number one spot with a score of 46.300. Caitlin Elsadek led the way with a score of 9.525, which was good enough for second overall in the meet. Allison Hester placed fourth overall turned in a 9.400, while Sullivan notched a 9.275 and Marla Thomas scored a 9.050.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action and will finish their road stretch, when they again go toe-to-toe with Ithaca in a dual meet on Jan. 21.
