BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team had much to celebrate on Sunday, as they hosted their annual Stick it to Cancer meet, celebrated senior day, and bypassed SUNY Cortland 192.300-188.825.
The Golden Eagles improve to 10-2 on the year, while the Red Dragons fall to 3-7 in 2017.
Head coach
John Feeney's squad opened the meet strong, with a team score of 48.725 on the vault.
Candis Kowalik scored Brockport's high of the season, a 9.875 for first, while
Jen Sklenar wasn't far behind, turning in a 9.800, which tied for third.
Stephanie Mager added a 9.750 with
Casey Sullivan scoring a 9.700.
The Green and Gold continued their strong showing on the uneven bars, besting Cortland 47.625-45.625. All six Golden Eagles swept the top six spots, with
Meghan Cash earning first with a 9.625.
Maddie O'Braitis (9.550) took second,
Caitlin Elsadek (9.525) finished third,
Marla Thomas (9.475) snagged fourth,
Miranda Shaine (9.450) took fifth and Sklenar (9.425) rounded out the top six.
On the beam, the Golden Eagles were just outpaced by their counter parts, as the Green and Gold posted a score of 47.450 to Cortland's 47.475.
Taylor Keough took the top spot overall, with a 9.675. Sklenar grabbed third with a 9.575 and
Kendra Bushart took fifth with a 9.500.
The Golden Eagles shined on the floor to wrap up the meet, with a team score of 48.500, bettering Cortland's 47.200. Kowalik scored another high for Brockport, with a 9.800 routine. Brockport swept the top five spots, with
Brittany Vasile (9.775) taking second, Sklenar (9.675) finishing third, Keough (9.650) taking fourth and Cash (9.600) rounding out the top five.
Sklenar continued her strong run as an all-around competitor, scoring a 38.475 individually.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Feb. 26 when they compete in the Harriet Marranca Memorial Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College, facing off against Ursinus College and Rhode Island College.
