Brockport sets school record in win over Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In a dual meet against Ursinus College, The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team had a very strong showing, posting a new school record, bypassing the Bears by a score of 193.325-190.975.
 
The Golden Eagles improve to 13-3 in 2017 while the Bears fall to 4-9 on the year.
 
The Green and Gold dominated the meet, taking three of the four events. Starting on the bars, Brockport posted a team score of 47.925, just missing against Ursinus' 48.100. Allison Hester and Maddie O'Braitis lead the way, tying  for first place with scores of 9.675. Caitlin Elsadek placed sixth, with a routine of 9.625 while Marla Thomas (9.525) and Jen Sklenar (9.425) finished ninth and tenth respectively.
 
On the vault, Brockport's scores continued to rise, as they took the event by a score of 48.250-47.425. The Golden Eagles had the top four vaults, with Sklenar, Candis Kowalik and Stephanie Mager all tying for first with scores of 9.675. Casey Sullivan took fourth, with her vault earning a 9.625. Bridgette Schaal placed fifth with a 9.600 while Brittany Vasile rounded out the Brockport vaulters with a seventh place finish and a score of 9.550.
 
Brockport snagged their best score of the day on the floor, with a team mark of 48.675, bypassing Ursinus' 47.550. The impressive Golden Eagle routines swept the top six spots, with Vasile leading the way with a 9.775. Kowalik took second with a 9.750, with Taylor Keough and Schaal tying for third with scores of 9.725. Meghan Cash and Sklenar rounded out the top six, with scores of 9.700 and 9.675 respectively.
 
Head coach John Feeney's squad finished the day on the beam, where a team score of 48.475 bested the Bears' 47.900. Kowalik led the way, taking second with a score of 9.775 while Kendal Hamer and Erica Roth tied for third with scores of 9.700. Keough and Sklenar each finished sixth, with each routine earning a score of 9.650.
 
Sklenar was a strong all-around competitor for the Green and Gold, where she took first with an all-around mark of 38.425.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 12 when they head to Baltimore to take on Towson University.
