BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Department of Athletics announced their annual awards this week, and four Golden Eagle athletes were honored.
Allison Gardella and
David Horan were named Scholar Athletes of the Year, while
Jon Rogers and
Kelly Wall were honored as Male and Female Brockport Athletes of the Year.
Gardella, a senior member of the women's track and field team, has been a sample student-athlete during her time at Brockport. Competing in the pole vault event, the Penfield, N.Y. native made a positive impact on both the indoor and outdoor squad with a number of quality finishes. She's been even more impressive in the classroom, maintaining a 3.95 GPA in the Biology program.
Horan was an important piece of an ice hockey team that reached the conference playoffs after a dominant last weekend of play. The junior had a career game against nationally ranked Plattsburgh in the regular-season finale, notching two goals and an assist en route to an 8-4 victory. He's also excelled academically, maintaining a 3.93 GPA as a Finance major through his first five semesters at Brockport.
After an impressive junior season, Rogers has followed up with an absolutely dominant senior campaign for the track and field squad. The Averill Park, N.Y. native earned All-America honors in the shot put event during the indoor track and field season, finishing fourth with a distance of 16.86 meters. He was named the SUNYAC Co-Field Athlete of the Year after the indoor season, which included a school record 17.39 meter toss at the ECAC Championships in which he finished first in the shot put. He's continued to impress during outdoor track and field, ranking in the top-25 nationally in both the discus throw and shot put events.
Wall has wrapped up her four year Brockport campaign with one of her best seasons yet, having already recorded 47 points (33 goals, 14 assists) on the year. She's been the offensive leader of a Golden Eagle squad that ranks sixteenth in the country, and earned the regular season SUNYAC title for the first time in program history. Her contributions stretch outside of the offensive zone as well, as the Clifton Park, N.Y. graduate has also registered 37 ground balls, 16 caused-turnovers, and 26 draw controls during the 2017 season.
