BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport athletic department is excited to announce a host of construction projects that are set to kick off the summer of 2018. The upgrades will improve the appearance of the Brockport Athletic Facilities as well as enhance the student-athlete and fan experience.
The three main playing facilities seeing renovations this summer include the Tuttle North Ice Arena, The Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium and the James B. Fulton Natatorium. There will also be projects geared to update other facilities, including the football team locker room, the women's general locker-room, and the wrestling team practice facility.
"These projects will improve fan experience, while also providing a dedicated space for student athletes for before, during and after the game," states Athletic Director
Erick Hart.
The Tuttle North Ice Arena has seen completed demolition in order to begin the installation of new bleachers. Underneath those bleachers, there will be new team rooms, providing more control of the ice rink. The goal for a timeline for the project is to have the renovations completed early summer, so that community groups can continue to enjoy the facility prior to the Golden Eagles 2018-19 Ice Hockey season.
Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium will also see new bleachers installed over the summer, moving on from the outdated wooden system to a more up-to-date, user friendly set. The project will add a new look to the gym, which has seen State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships from the Volleyball and Men's Basketball over the past five seasons. The project is expected to be one of the first to be completed and will be a welcome improvement to an already outstanding facility.
In the James B. Fulton Natatorium, the bleachers will also be renovated and underneath will be storage space that will allow both the athletic department and the department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education (KSSPE) department an area to put away the equipment they need. In addition, a team room will be added to the natatorium that will give the swimming and diving team a place to call home, serving as a meeting place and a storage solution for the student athletes. Finally, the pool will be drained and cleaned out, while tile work is done and the deck is cleaned.
"The bleachers will provide a better viewing location for fans, but they will also be user friendly so game day faculty and staff can adjust the seating as necessary," Hart adds.
For the Football team, the locker room will receive an upgrade with new lockers, along with a new floor and wrapping over the old tile. There will also be a new paint job, with the hope that it will have an impact on the recruitment of future student athletes and be a new look for when the college hosts Section V football. The project is scheduled to be complete before athletes begin to report in August.
A few smaller projects include a new practice mat in the wrestling room and repainting of the track. Finally, in the fall, the women's general locker room will have four team room built, creating a better use of the space for the Golden Eagles and visiting opponents.
"With increased interest in outside groups using our facilities, it is important that we continue to improve," said Athletic Facilities Coordinator
Nate Bull. "We want to treat everyone that steps foot on campus as a potential Golden Eagle and this will be a tremendous help."
