BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team is set to resume play for the 2020 half of their season this upcoming weekend in a conference double header against Potsdam and Plattsburgh. The Golden Eagles struggled to put together some wins to end the year but after a quick holiday break, the team is recharged and ready to jump into the conference heavy portion of their schedule.
December Recap: The Golden Eagles currently hold a 3-6 overall record and 0-2 in conference play with the bulk of their season ahead of them. The team spent part of their winter break in Pittsburgh, PA where they found strong competitors in Saint Vincent College and Hartwick College, coming up just short in both matchups. Despite struggling to find their momentum, the Golden Eagles saw a number of positives on the road. Senior
Bailey Pratt found her sweet spot from the perimeter, sinking five from three for 15 of her 17 total points on the day. Pratt and
Julianna Taylor were the driving forces for the Green and Gold, Taylor adding 15 points of her own against the Hawks. The team hopes to feed off of the offensive momentum of their upper classman to launch them into the new year.
Where We Fall: Currently, all ten teams in the SUNYAC have only competed in two conference games thus far, allowing the Green and Gold plenty of opportunities to move up in the ranks. As a team, the Golden Eagles currently fall fourth overall in field goal percentage (37.7), three-point percentage (29.0), and free throw percentage (66.7) in addition to fifth in assists per game (13.1) and blocks per game (3.6). The team is currently averaging 59.4 points per game through nine games.
Individual Rank: Taylor has done a great job of remaining a constant offensive force for the Golden Eagles, ranking sixth overall in the SUNYAC in total points (127).
Kylee Rosbrook joins Taylor amongst the top performers, also finding herself ranked sixth overall in field goal percentage (48.8). Both athletes have also led the team offensively, ranking in the top two scorers in the lineup with 127 and 100 points respectively.
Collective Effort: Through nine games the Golden Eagles are currently averaging the following numbers –
Points Per Game (59.4), Field Goals Per Game (22.2), 3PT Per Game (5.2), Free Throws Per Game (9.8), Rebounds Per Game (40.1), Assists Per Game (13.1), Steals Per Game (7.3), Blocks Per Game (3.6)
Last Time They Met: The Golden Eagles picked up a split against both of these teams in the 2018-2019 season. The Green and Gold opened up the year with a 67-81 loss to the Bears but secured a 72-66 win when they met for the second time. The team had the opposite fate against the Cardinals, moving past them 64-56 to start the year and then falling just short 50-54 in their next meeting. Taylor, Pratt,
Zaria McCullough and
Allison Chiera provided the offense for the Golden Eagles against both teams– the strongest performance coming from McCullough who notched a career high 16 points against Potsdam last January. Taylor and Chiera each had 15-point outings as well.
What To Expect:
Potsdam – The Bears currently sit at an even 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play after a split weekend against New Paltz (42-74) and Oneonta (84-77). Through eight games the Bears are averaging 70 points per game, led by sophomore Devyn Elliot who averages 18.5 points per game for 148 total thus far.
Plattsburgh – The Cardinals hold a 4-5 overall record and an even 1-1 in conference after splitting with Oneonta (62-56) and New Paltz (41-81) as well. The team is currently averaging 58 points per game, led by senior Taylor Durnin who is averaging 10.2 points per game for 92 total.
