Baseball Travels Again This Weekend

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team is ready to get back on the field following a weekend of games canceled due to weather. The team heads to SUNY Purchase Saturday for two games starting at 12 pm and then continues the road trip in Pennsylvania for a matchup against the University of Scranton on Sunday at 1 pm.

Last Outing: Brockport looks to keep the momentum going following the final game in Virginia two weekends ago which earned them their first win on the year. The team defeated Alfred State, 12-8, to improve to 1-3 overall. Daniel DelGaizo came up big with two triples, three RBI's and four runs scored. Matthew Colucci got the win on the hill, striking out two batters and giving up no earned runs in two innings of work.

Pitcher of the Week: The Golden Eagles had strong contributions on the mound by their starters in Virginia. Leading the way was senior pitcher Kyle Canavally, who earned PrestoSports SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week following his four inning start versus Alfred State. This start saw him strike out six and only surrender one hit.

On the Mound: Also providing a strong impact on the mound was junior pitcher Andrew Huffman. In his Brockport debut, Huffman went 5.2 IP giving up two earned runs and striking out eight Ferrum Panthers.

Waking up the Bats: The starting pitchers were not the only ones who played well in Virginia. Leading the way offensively was the combination of sophomore first basemen, James Houlahan and Ryan Voight. Going a combined 11-of-27 for a .407 average at the plate, and Voight also contributing his first career home run versus Ferrum.

Looking at Purchase: SUNY Purchase baseball is 2-5 on the year and just wrapped up a Spring training trip. The panthers are led by sophomore infielder, James Shea. Shea is currently hitting .353 with .421 OBP on the young season.

Looking at Scranton: University of Scranton is currently 0-2 on the young campaign after falling to Vassar and Arcadia. The team is led on the mound by freshmen pitcher Daniel Johnson. Johnson has thrown 6IP and has yet to surrender a run to begin his collegiate career.

What's Next: The Golden Eagles will look to pick up three wins this weekend before embarking on their Spring Training trip where they will play nine games in seven days. The team will travel down to Florida and South Carolina beginning on March 15th at 6:00 pm vs Rutgers-Newark.
