Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team gets back to work this weekend with a pair of home games. Brockport hosts Oneonta on Friday for a 5:30 pm start and then takes on New Paltz at 2 pm on Saturday.
Last Time Out: December 10
th was the last contest the team played in, when it travelled to face Buffalo State for a conference matchup. Brockport came up short on the road, falling to the Bengals 75-65. The loss put the squad's record at 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC so far.
SUNYAC Standings: With a 2-2 mark in the conference at this point, the Green and Gold own the sixth spot in the standings. Cortland, Buffalo State, Oneonta, and Potsdam make up the top five in the SUNYAC heading into the weekend. Fredonia, Geneseo, Plattsburgh, and Oswego are the bottom four teams on the outside looking in. With the remainder of the schedule listing mainly conference matchups, Brockport prepares for an important stretch of the season.
Scoring Contributions: The Golden Eagles have benefitted from some balanced scoring this year, as six players are averaging at least seven points per game. Playing in just four games so far due to injury,
Anna Felice leads the way with an average of 17.3 points per game.
Kylee Rosbrook scores 10.9 points a game, while
Erin Radack puts up 9.3 a game.
Erin Nolan (8.1 ppg),
Chelsea Henry (7.7 ppg), and
Serena Sordetto (7.2 ppg) all contribute on the offensive end.
Converting at the Line: Brockport has been solid at the foul line this year as well, with four players shooting at or above 80%. Nolan Erin is still perfect on the season at 11-for-11, while
Eliza Conyers has shot 5-for-5 at the charity stripe.
Erin Radack is 10-for-12, shooting 83.3% at the foul line.
Serena Sordetto has been solid as well, shooting a healthy 80% on 16-for-20 shooting at the line.
Team Rebounding: Just like in the scoring column, several players have consistently grabbed rebounds this season. Six players are currently averaging at least four rebounds a game for the Green and Gold.
Molly Mahony is tops on the team, snagging 6.7 boards a night.
Chelsea Henry and
Kylee Rosbrook are tied for second with averages of 5.4 rebounds a game.
Erin Nolan (5.3 rpg),
Serena Sordetto (5.2 rpg), and
Zoe Zutes (4.1 rpg) are all working hard on the glass.
Oneonta Matchup: The Oneonta Red Dragons enter the weekend 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. They are riding the wave of a three game winning streak, after an 80-42 blowout win over Sage back on December 17
th. Inside the SUNYAC, Oneonta has secured wins over Plattsburgh and Potsdam, but suffered a loss to New Paltz. #12 Molly Stephens is the leading scorer, averaging 12.2 points a game, and has hit 21 shots from long range this season. #34 Olivia Dobrovosky is another threat for Oneonta, averaging 10.6 points and six rebounds a game. Brockport is looking for its first win over Oneonta since the 2016-17 season.
New Paltz Matchup: New Paltz enters the weekend 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference this season. The Hawks most recently lost to Smith College, 62-54, back on December 30
th. They have wins over Plattsburgh and Oneonta inside of SUNYAC play, with a loss coming against Potsdam. #4 Brianna Fitzgerald leads the way with 14.9 points and 6.1 boards per game. #5 Maddie Gillis scores 13.7 points a game and #3 Lexi Van Vorst posts 12.1 points a game. Brockport is looking to earn a win over New Paltz for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
