Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team will play a pair of games this weekend to close out the regular season. Brockport travels to Oswego for a 7:30 pm start on Friday before hosting Buffalo State at 4 pm on Saturday.
Senior Day: Brockport will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday in the final home game of the regular season. There will be a short ceremony before the game begins to recognize and honor the three seniors.
Brandon Kennedy-Gay,
Devante Hagins, and
Antonio Alvarez will all be thanked for their contributions to SUNY Brockport and the men's basketball program.
Postseason Clinched: Following the win over Fredonia earlier this week, the Golden Eagles clinched a spot in the postseason. The program has now made it to the SUNYAC Tournament for 21 consecutive seasons. 1999 was the last year that the team missed the postseason. Head Coach
Greg Dunne continues his streak, making the conference tournament every year since he took over the program.
SUNYAC Standings: At 11-5 in the conference, Brockport is currently in second place in the SUNYAC standings. With a spot in the postseason already clinched, the team is now competing to host a SUNYAC game or to earn a first-round bye. The full listing of the conference standings includes: 1. Oswego (15-1), 2. Brockport (11-5), 3. Oneonta (11-5), 4. New Paltz (10-6), 5. Potsdam (9-7), 6. Cortland (8-8), 7. Geneseo (8-8), 8. Buffalo State (4-12), 9. Fredonia (3-13), and 10. Plattsburgh (1-15).
Timing is Everything: With the postseason rapidly approaching, the Golden Eagles have turned it on and gotten hot at exactly the right time. After losing a pair of games mid-January, they were sitting at 5-5 against SUNYAC opponents. Since then the squad has rattled off six wins in a row, as the team is playing its best basketball of the season when it matters most. The defending 2019-20 SUNYAC Champions look to keep this momentum on the way to defending their title.
Oswego Matchup: The Lakers have already clinched the top seed for the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament, as they sit comfortably at 21-2 overall and 15-1 in the conference. They defeated Brockport, 85-58, earlier in the season.
David Grady III led the team with 13 points and six blocks, but no other player broke double-digits. Oswego benefitted from four players reaching double figures. Ahkee Anderson neared a triple-double with 16 points, eight boards, and eight assists to lead the way.
Buffalo State Matchup: Jahidi Wallace was unstoppable in the first meeting against Buffalo State. He finished the game with 21 points and 14 rebounds to notch the double-double, while shooting 8-for-11 from the floor. The Bengals had five double-digit scorers and got a double-double of their own from Marquell Boutwell's 10 points and 10 boards. Brockport cruised to a 99-73 victory on the road the first time around. Buffalo State has already been eliminated from postseason contention, owning a record of 5-18 overall and 4-12 in the SUNYAC heading into the weekend.
SUNYACs Next: This weekend will bring the regular season to a close, which means the SUNYAC Tournament is next on the schedule. Results of this weekend will determine the final seedings for each team that qualifies for the postseason and impact the official postseason schedule. The first round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, February 22
nd, while the semifinals and finals are to be played on February 25
th and 26
