#3 Brockport Hosts #6 Potsdam Tuesday to Begin SUNYAC Tournament

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is set to host Potsdam on Tuesday night for the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament. This rematch of the 2019-20 SUNYAC Finals is set to tip-off at 7 pm in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

21 Consecutive Seasons: After clinching the third seed for this year's conference tournament, Brockport has now earned a postseason berth for 21 consecutive seasons. With 1999 being the last time the program missed out on SUNYACs, this team has made the tournament every year since 2000.

Dunne's Milestone: In the team's last regular season contest, it defeated Buffalo State at home, 76-66. For Head Coach Greg Dunne, this secured the 250th win of his career here at SUNY Brockport. He joined the program as an assistant coach back in 1999 before taking over as head coach in 2007. Dunne has never missed the SUNYAC Tournament here at Brockport and is looking for a fourth SUNYAC Championship this year, which would be the most by any coach in program history.

Postseason History: Overall the SUNY Brockport men's basketball program has nine SUNYAC titles, third most in conference history. The Golden Eagles are entering this year's postseason as the defending champions from the 2019-20 season. The program has not won back-to-back championships since winning two in a row in 2001 and 2002. Since Coach Dunne took over in 2007, the team has only lost in the first round of the postseason once and has advanced to the semifinals or finals 12 times.

Tournament Layout: The bracket for the SUNYAC Tournament is set as the first round will be played on Tuesday night. No. 3 Brockport hosts No. 6 Potsdam, while No. 4 New Paltz will host No. 5 Cortland to kick things off. As the top two seeds, No. 1 Oswego and No. 2 Oneonta have a first-round bye. As the top seed, Oswego will host the semifinal and championship rounds this weekend on Friday and Saturday. Oswego will take on the lowest seed coming out of the first round, while Oneonta will face the higher seed from the first round in the semifinals. All roads lead to a chance for a title on Saturday, February 26th.

Against Potsdam: Tuesday night's first-round matchup against Potsdam will be the third time Brockport has faced this opponent this year. Brockport has defeated Potsdam in both previous meetings, by scores of 94-73 and 75-64. Mekhi Beckett is averaging 18.5 points per game against Potsdam this season, while David Grady III and Antonio Alvarez have both averaged at least 14 points against this opponent. Although he was quiet the second time around, Jahidi Wallace gouged the Bears for 27 points in the first matchup. Brockport has won four in a row against Potsdam, which of course includes a 102-75 win in last year's SUNYAC Championship game.

Fighting to Move On: Tuesday night's game will be a win or go home scenario, as both teams will be fighting to continue their seasons. A win will push Brockport into the semifinals, hosted by Oswego, where it will continue its title defense. The semifinals game will be played on Friday, February 25th.
